This is a well done article and if someone implemented the concepts they would help with the friction that is prevalent in the culture today. Experimentation is great at removing some of the pain in making the decision: it's an experiment, lets see what it looks like. I like the idea of an open environment, because your team brings you problems and **we **solve them with a RACI matrix. It's unfortunate not all employers are open to this concept of servant leadership.

For sure, and I would love to see a study done on what layoffs and turnover looks like in those companies. I would bet it's higher.

Anecdotally, having worked for them, there is a dual problem with not getting good talent and not keeping good talent. I'm with you, I would like to see some numbers on those types of companies, but I don't know how they would get metrics like that, because the C-Level managers have cognitive bias. Everyone has it to a certain degree, but I'm saying there are ways to combat cognitive bias and they don't think of it as an issue. Usually the company wants something for nothing.

Love the focus on documentation as a way to scale giving - I've seen 'tribal knowledge' become the biggest blocker for my own projects. What's been the hardest type of expertise for you to document or delegate in your community?

That's a great question. I like to do a lot of experimentation to see what works and what doesn't. It would probably be valuable to document what hasn't worked and why. I know for sure people have asked me, "why don't we try this?" and I know we have a reason for it, but I can't remember. It would be super helpful to be able to relate that info.

this hits home man, been the person everyone leans on and it's rough after a while - you think most people realize when they're becoming a bottleneck or does it kinda sneak up on you?

From personal experience, I would say it probably sneaks up on you. I think the nature of giving people is that they want everyone to succeed, but that's often at the expense of themselves and often bc they don't trust people to do the job. This is what makes it kind of complicated. If you work in an environment where people don't have psychological safety or that collaboration is seen more as a weakness than a strength, then we also develop habits of being the reliable one, the one who helps everyone and holds all the knowledge. So some of it means, breaking bad habits that were formed in bad work environments, relationships, etc.
